Our pledge to Warwickshire’s rural communities in 2025
At the earliest opportunity, the WRCC team and I wanted to wish you all a very Happy New Year! We are looking forward to the year ahead and to working with our wonderful partners, for the benefit of Warwickshire’s vibrant rural communities.
While 2025 might bring some “unknowns,” like the potential for Warwickshire to become a one-tier unitary authority, WRCC remains committed to offering our valuable services countywide, just as we have for the past 87 incredible years.
What lies ahead?
As we kick off January, our Warm Hubs team is already buzzing with plans, including re-running the ever-popular ‘slow cooker’ cooking courses. They are also busy reviewing applications for funding, which we distribute in partnership with Cadent. Stay tuned for more updates on our website soon. Our energy buying syndicate is also already processing the first order of the year.
We are incredibly proud that WRCC services operated throughout the festive season, showcasing our dedication to those living in rural areas year-round. Our Community Food Fleet delivered meals on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Year’s Day. Additionally, our Back and 4th community transport was active across the county throughout the period, ensuring everyone stayed connected.
Our first team meeting of the year was a positive one earlier today, as our Rural Housing Enablers reported that they are already in discussions with parish councils looking to complete housing needs surveys in early 2025. They will also review site allocation proposals in the South Warwickshire local plan, seeking opportunities for more rural affordable housing schemes.
Next week, I’m thrilled to be catching up with our partners at Halls Together to discuss support for village halls and other community buildings this year. These facilities are the heart of our communities, promoting inclusivity and fostering local cohesion for residents of all ages across the county.
Please get in touch with us and share your priorities for rural Warwickshire in 2025.
Let’s work together to ensure our communities are thriving, vibrant, and sustainable – places where people love to live and work.
With very best wishes,
Chris Cowcher
Chief Executive
